'The Train That Went To Sea' Cayo Paloma (Pigeon Key)
Sculpture
Woodcarving by Mario Sanchez depicting a vibrant scene with an Oversea Railway train labeled 'Florida East Coast Railroad' traversing the original Seven Mile Bridge over the ocean, under a bright blue sky filled with fluffy, stylized clouds that contain drawings of birds. Each train carriage bears the name of an island in the Florida Keys including Key West, Big Pine Key, Marathon, Long Key, and Tavernier. Below the bridge, sits Pigeon Key adorned with white cottages and coconut-laden palm trees. Boats, both a sponge boat named 'Old Ropes' and a lone fisherman, navigate the turquoise waters surrounding the island. A bright orange sun can be seen in the sky, adding warmth to the composition as the train makes its way to Key West during sunset. The entire artwork is enclosed in a simple wooden frame.
