This is how these places of business looked in the 20s and 30s. The people did not care how it looked. They frequented these stores to buy the tasty sandwiches Mr. Diaz and his two sons, Rene and Ralph, prepared, and also to buy at the grocery fruit store next door. Every Saturday was bargain day at this store, offering bananas at 35 cents a whole bunch. The very popular Kappa-Py-Y Social Club was founded at Diaz Sandwich Shop by Rene, Ralph and a group of other youths of those days. This club was active in the community, organizing dances, picnics and parades'.
