One of the most influential American playwrights of the 20th century, Tennessee Williams is best known for classics such as A Streetcar Named Desire, The Glass Menagerie, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. For more than 30 years, he lived and wrote in Key West, finding inspiration and respite in a quiet cottage where he also pursued oil painting, often sketching friends, acquaintances, and characters from his plays.
This program is sponsored in part by the Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture, the Florida Council on Arts and Culture, and the State of Florida.
