The Key West Art & Historical Society is hosting a walking tour of historic downtown led by the curator and historian, Cori Convertito. She will explore Key West’s rich naval and architectural history.
Tour Highlights:
Begin at the Custom House, once home to wreckers’ court cases and the 1898 Maine Court of Inquiry.
Stroll through Truman Annex, uncovering 19th-century naval structures like the Power Plant, Marine Hospital, and Weather Station. Learn about the impact of WWII, the 1986 Naval Base privatization, and the area’s transformation into a vibrant residential and commercial neighborhood.
Continue along Whitehead Street, where Dr. Convertito will share stories of early settlement, Classical Revival architecture, and Key West’s iconic tropical landscaping.
Tour will meet in front of the Key West Museum of Art & History at 10:00 a.m and will finish the Audubon House at 11:30 a.m. Please dress appropriately for an outdoor walk. We encourage hats and bringing along a bottle of water.
