Two Hour Historic Harbor Tour with ‘Whiskey Rick’ Warmbold on the S/V Argo Navis talking about Truman, Korea & Key West
Sail into historic exploration with Walking Tour Guide and Truman Little White House docent Rick Warmbold aboard the luxury sailing catamaran S/V Argo Navis
On Wednesday, November 19, Warmbold will lead a historically illuminating morning seafaring excursion presented by Key West Art & Historical Society aboard the luxury catamaran S/V Argo Navis, departing from the dock at Sunset Pier, adjacent to Ocean Key House at 0 Duval Street at 10:00 a.m. and returning at 12:00pm.
Passengers will enjoy Bloody Marys, mimosas or non-alcoholic beverages along with a variety of pastries as Warmbold shares the connection between US President Harry S Truman and the Korean War.
Seventy-five years ago, President Truman skipped his usual fall trip to Key West, heading to Wake Island instead as the Korean War and 1950 elections took center stage. This talk focuses on Truman’s time in Key West during the Korean Conflict—especially the big decisions he made while staying at the Navy Base Commander’s House.
Warmbold will revisit the dramatic firing of General MacArthur, a move that hurt Truman’s popularity but later came to symbolize the importance of civilian control over the military. That decision was made just days after Truman flew out of Key West.
