Our Working Waterfront Exhibit Opening

Key West Museum of Art & History

December 15, 2023 | 5:00pm – 7:00pm

The Key West Art & Historical Society is pleased to announce the opening of its forthcoming exhibition “Our Working Waterfront.” The Society welcomes the public to a special reception on December 15 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Key West Museum of Art & History, 281 Front Street, to mark the exhibit opening.
The exhibit will explore the diversity of work along the Key West waterfront. It will reveal the complex interconnections of waterfront work, while integrating never before exhibited historic photos and a range of artifacts. The diverse forms of work ranged from shipbuilding, wrecking, sponging, turtling and shrimping. The main themes illuminated in the exhibition were: what is and was waterfront work, who works/worked along the waterfront, and what do/did they do. It also took up important questions about how the waterfront has changed over time, the reasons for these changes, and implications for the future.
“Our Working Waterfront” runs until February 11, 2024, in the Bryan Gallery and is sponsored by the Florida Department of State, Division of Arts & Culture, with additional support provided by The Helmerich Trust.
