Short Story Writing Contest Prizes:

• $200 First Place and publication on the Society’s website.
• $100 Second Place and publication on the Society’s website.

Submission Guidelines:

• In commemorating Tennessee Williams’s 112th Birthday, the 2023 Birthday Celebration includes a short story contest that is open to everyone.
• Submitted short stories must be between 1,500 to 4,000 words and must not have been written before 2022.
• Submissions are limited to one short story per person.
• There is no specific theme for the 2023 Short Story Competition; however, your short story must in some way reference Tennessee Williams.
• Authors may choose to write a story referencing Williams, his family, one of his characters, or one of the actors/actresses who played a role in his plays or films.

Deadline:

• March 11, 2022, 11:59 p.m. EST.
• Winners will be announced on March 26, 2023 at a special Birthday Party at the Tennessee Williams Museum.

Judges:

• Three published authors will judge the contest.
• Judges will receive blind copies of the short stories.

Additional Details:

• You will retain ownership of your submitted short story.
• By submitting it to the Key West Art & Historical Society for publication or for inclusion in the contest, should it rank among winners or receive an honorable mention, you give the Society permission to publish it online on this website and in publications promoting the KWAHS’s mission or this annual contest.
• The KWAHS would not be able to sell your individual short story on its own or have any further rights over it beyond these purposes.
• You could publish it anywhere else or sell it to any publication as desired.
