Black American Poetry Celebration

18-February from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

To celebrate Black History Month, the Key West Poetry Guild and the Key West Art & Historical Society invites community members to the Museum of Art & History on Saturday, February 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to participate in a FREE Black American Poetry Celebration.

Participation and reading are open to the public.  Readers are encouraged to select their favorite pieces of Black American Poetry to read in an open mic-style evening.  Select inspiring works from Langston Hughes, Sonia Sanchez, Alice Walker, Ross Gay, and others.  This exploration of poetry is designed to build bridges across the racial divide by introducing the audience to the writings of a number of Black poets whose work has shone a light on the rich cultural heritage that has often gone unexplored.
