Free Curator Tour of Tennessee Williams Museum
1-March from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
The Tennessee Williams Museum, under the auspices of the Key West Art and Historical Society, is offering a free tour for locals on the first Sunday in March. The tour will be led by Curator Dennis Beaver and will begin at 2:00 p.m. on March 1 at the museum at 513 Truman Avenue. The focus of the tour will be on Williams play “The Glass Menagerie” and the playwright’s relationship with his sister Rose. This is the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Broadway opening of the play in March of 1945. It was an immediate literary and critical success and it launched Williams’ career as a playwright. It is a memory play with strong autobiographical elements, featuring characters based on its author, his mother and his mentally fragile sister. The curator will share information about the home on Von Phister Street that was bought by Williams for his sister Rose and provide little-known details about her life and care while living here in Key West.
