Becoming a Woman // Short Stories by Tennessee Williams presented by Fringe Theater Key West
Tennessee Williams had a way with women. He wrote them with sensuality, sexuality and a complexity that defied the convention of the day. He did not shy away from stains on sheets or sweat between thighs. His women could simmer from the inside or be destroyed from the outside. The women in these four short stories, are in various states of transition. Though their behaviors are not always becoming, they are in a state of becoming. They are discovering their nature. The stories, too, are in a state of becoming. Tennessee used his short stories to explore themes, characters and sometimes even dialogue that would reemerge in later plays. This program looks at four such short stories and the women who are becoming. Mature themes.
