Mario Sanchez Sketches by Sigsbee Charter School

Following in the Mario Sanchez tradition, students drew his portrait on brown grocery bags.  Second and third grade students in Ms. Franke’s art class at Sigsbee Charter School studied how Mario Sanchez, Cuban folk artist from Key West, would sketch his street scenes on grocery bags.  He then transferred the art to wood before carving the scene and painting it.  Students drew portraits of Mario Sanchez in folk art style just like he used to do.  The portraits show Mario on the street getting ready to paint just as he had done in real life.  The Sigsbee students were studying this local artist for Hispanic Heritage Month and really enjoyed seeing his paintings and understanding his process
