SAVE THE DATE:   Party Like a Hemingway During Hemingway Days with Renowned Mixologist Philip Greene and Key West Art & Historical Society

Hemingway Days, happening July 18-23, celebrates a myriad of ingredients of Ernest Hemingway’s lifestyle, including his passion for the cocktail. Did Hemingway like vermouth?  How about sugar in his daiquiri?  Which drink became his comfort when the sharks came and ate his catch?  Fans of Hemingway and connoisseurs of the cocktail will be intoxicated by Key West Art & Historical Society’s “The Hemingway Gala,” featuring special guest Philip Greene, mixologist and author of “To Have and Have Another: A Hemingway Cocktail Companion,” set for Sunday, July 23 from 7:30pm to 10:00pm at the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum courtyard, 907 Whitehead Street.

Green’s lively presentation will elevate Hemingway aficionados and those that just plain appreciate a good drink towards a literary lubing of the mind and the palate.

“Hemingway was a no-nonsense drinker, says Greene. “He wanted a drink to be well made, very cold, and not at all sweet.  He traveled globally and drank locally.”

Guests will be greeted with an authentic Ernest Hemingway cocktail followed by a lively, informative, and entertaining presentation on the “life, times, and favorite drinks, of the original “Most Interesting Man in the World,”” says Greene. They will receive cocktail samples of Hemingway’s most favorite drinks, the folklore behind them, a recipe demo, and an opportunity for Q&A with Greene, who is also an attorney, writer, and co-founder of the Museum of the American Cocktail.

After, guests can enjoy conversation, music, light edibles, and if thirsty for more, authentic Hemingway cocktails from the bar, all included with ticket purchase.  Greene will be on hand to sign books, which will be available for purchase at the event.

“The Hemingway Gala,” is sponsored in part by Helmerich Trust is one of many events offered by The Society in support of Hemingway Days. Limited tickets are available at kwahs.org/education/hemingway-days; $50 for members, $75 for nonmembers.
