Teen Camp: Pinhole Photography. The Basics of Darkroom Techniques and Pinhole Cameras @ Fort East Martello | Key West | Florida | United States

Ages 10-16

In this workshop, students will learn the elements of film photography and printing as they create pinhole photographs. From the physics of light, mechanics of the pinhole camera and elements of chemistry to a foundation of art, design and the creative process, the class will introduce, discuss and put into practice the world of film photography and foster student creativity.
Students  will  be  involved  in  all  aspects  of  image  making  with  a  pinhole  camera, including  camera  operation,  exposure  determination  (there  is  no  light  meter  or automated shutter), composing images based on a practiced understanding of how the camera  “sees”  (there  is  no  viewfinder),  and  darkroom  practice,  processing  “film”  and printing techniques and development of paper negatives.

This  course  is  for  students  who  have  enough  maturity  to  work  together  with
other students and in a darkroom with chemicals in a responsible way.

About Jodell Roberts

Jodell Roberts is a fine art photographer living in Key West, Florida.  Many of her images are inspired by the exotic and striking beauty of the natural world of the Caribbean.  A major focus of Jodell’s photography is a black and white reverse image making process she coins “negative images”.  This process comes from a long-standing fascination with large format film negatives that took a significant turn with her pinhole photography work with paper negatives that the artist has since developed into a full exploration of possibilities.

Camp Details
In addition to registering online, we will require a more detailed form for emergency purposes. The ArtCamp! 2017 registration form and Camper Code of Conduct will be available on the first day of camp and must be completed prior to the commencement of camp.
Camp commences at 9:00 AM and ends at 4:00 PM. Each week the children will enjoy a field trip to a local museum or venue associated with the camp’s theme. To ensure the comfort of your child throughout the day, we have included a list of essentials. Please pack these items in a beach bag that can be left at the camp. The bags will be kept in a designated storage area to which the children will have access. It is important that all items be labelled with your child’s name. Snacks will be provided, however, the children will require a packed lunch. Pizza will be provided on the field trip unless otherwise noted. We look forward to sharing an action-packed summer with your child!
