Teen Camp: Fossil Lab @ Fort East Martello | Key West | Florida | United States

Ages 10-16

In this creative and inspiring environment, students will learn how to sculpt and cast bones. The collection of casted molds created during the workshop will form the skeleton of a prehistoric creature and eventually become part of an excavation site. The group will learn about fossils, how they came to be, where they can be found and in this case how to make your own. Throughout the workshop, the students will learn how to work with tools in clay, plaster, and sand. The educational focus will be on science, math and critical thinking.

About Instructor Marianne van den Broek
Marianne has been a sand sculptor since 1999 and started her sand sculpting business in Key West in 2009. She has worked with local schools and youth to introduce them to the art form and let them explore the possibilities of sculpture with this temporary medium.
Marianne moved to United States in 2004 after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in communications in the Netherlands. She and her husband moved to Key West in 2005 . When she is not traveling all over the world to work with sand, she is a local charter boat captain who can be found on the waters around Key West.

Camp Details
In addition to registering online we will require a more detailed form for emergency purposes. The ArtCamp! 2017 registration form and Camper Code of Conduct will be available on the first day of camp and must be completed prior to the commencement of camp.
Camp commences at 9:00AM and ends at 4:00PM. Each week the children will enjoy a field trip to a local museum or venue associated with the camp’s theme. To ensure the comfort of your child throughout the day, we have included a list of essentials. Please pack these items in a beach bag that can be left at the camp. The bags will be kept in a designated storage area to which the children will have access. It is important that all items be labelled with your child’s name. Snacks will be provided, however, the children will require a packed lunch. Pizza will be provided on the field trip unless otherwise noted. We look forward to sharing an action-packed summer with your child!
