The Key West Art and Historical Society is excited to partner with Hindu Charters for a series of three historical lectures held on January 27, February 24, and March 31. This unique experience will include a morning sail with mimosas and a presentation from a prominent island historian. Each month we will host a subject matter expert that will discuss an important aspect of Keys history and the development of this thriving Island community that was once the wealthiest city in the state of Florida.

John Whitehead happened upon Key West quite by accident. A businessman and capitalist by nature, he immediately recognized the island’s potential and purchased it for the princely sum of $2000 with business partner John Simonton. Join Corey Malcom, Curator of the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum, as he discusses the industries that led to the development of the thriving island community of Key West, once the wealthiest city in the state of Florida.
