January 18, 2018. –Key West, FL. Key West Art & Historical Society Tennessee Williams Birthday Celebration events kick off on February 28
A series of events spotlighting Tennessee Williams, the Pulitzer-prize winning literary icon that moved to the Key West in 1949 and remained a resident for 34 years, kicks off Friday, February 28, with a limited-ticket party at the Whitehead Street home of Dennis Beaver and Bert Whitt. Featuring an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment, tickets are $90 for Key West Art & Historical Society members and $100 for non-members.
Beaver, a Williams’ aficionado, over time acquired a significant collection of memorabilia and materials by and about the famed playwright and artist who helped establish Key West’s literary movement and the cultural mecca the island was to become. His collection eventually became an exhibit and now, recently merging with Key West Art & Historical Society, The Tennessee Williams Museum, located at 513 Truman Ave.
Other upcoming Tennessee Williams Birthday Celebration events are to include a plein air painting contest, poetry readings at the Key West Public Library, showings of Williams’ classic films at The Tropic Cinema, short-story and poetry writing contests, theater performances and a Tennessee Williams birthday party to include contest award presentations, bubbly beverages and birthday cake.
